At Platt Bridge Community School, our curriculum is built upon our core values: to be resilient, to be respectful and honest, to be co-operative, and to be ambitious. We are committed to fostering these values in every child, ensuring they develop the essential language skills and life experiences to become exceptional citizens by the end of Year 6.
We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum that precisely meets the diverse needs of all children within our community. We strive to motivate and inspire our children through a curriculum that actively engages and challenges all learners, including those with identified SEND Needs.
Our curriculum promotes the holistic development of our children, actively removing barriers and unlocking opportunities to address any disadvantage. Through this, we develop educated citizens who are prepared for their future. We create life-enhancing experiences which raise the aspirations of our children, families, and community, equipping them with the cultural capital they need to succeed. Through a clear progression of skills and knowledge, we prepare our children to confidently take advantage of the responsibilities and experiences of life in modern Britain.
Curriculum Implementation
At Platt Bridge Community School, we implement an inclusive, broad, and balanced curriculum that meets the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum. Our curriculum is meticulously planned and provides rich opportunities for cross-curricular links, cultural capital development, and designated educational trips and visits which significantly enhance the experiences of all children. These experiences are designed to encourage co-operation, foster respect, and build resilience.
Subjects are taught as individual disciplines and are progressive, allowing previously taught content to seamlessly enhance and develop new learning. Children are immersed in a rich diet of high-level and subject-specific vocabulary to further enhance their understanding of their topic, providing them with a comprehensive breadth of language. This focus on language development is crucial for their overall communication and future success. Each year group has a list of high-quality, focused reading texts which link with each foundation subject to further deepen subject knowledge.
Within the wider curriculum, teachers ensure that there are planned opportunities for children to further develop their literacy skills through cross-curricular writing, ensuring standards are consistent across the curriculum. This also provides opportunities to apply their understanding of honesty and respect in their work and interactions.
Our curriculum is delivered through quality-first teaching, providing timely feedback to ensure a rapid pace of learning and progress. We provide a rich and varied learning environment which is rooted in the most up-to-date research, alongside stringent assessment, moderation, and monitoring that allows all pupils to develop their skills and abilities to their full potential.
Throughout this process, we are constantly re-evaluating our position in our curriculum journey, alongside the latest research, and amending our objectives to match the evolving needs of the children. This demonstrates our ambition for continuous improvement.
Our curriculum ensures that children are provided with opportunities to build on prior experiences and make connections in their learning through the progression of knowledge and skills. Through the breadth and depth of our curriculum, children become confident and resilient, and well-equipped for the future. Our curriculum enables children to become enthusiastic learners with high aspirations and ambition, ready to become great citizens.

Remote Education Offer
At our school, we are committed to ensuring that learning continues seamlessly, even when students are unable to attend in person. In the event that remote education is required, we use Google Classroom as our core online learning platform to deliver a high-quality curriculum.
Our Approach to Remote Learning
- Google Classroom Access: All pupils have individual login details for Google Classroom. Work, learning resources, and assignments are set directly through this platform.
- Asynchronous Lessons: Our remote curriculum is structured primarily around flexible, asynchronous learning. Teachers may post pre-recorded video explanations, guided presentations, reading material, and structured tasks. This allows children to engage with lessons and complete work at a pace that fits your household’s schedule.
- Curriculum Alignment: The work set online closely aligns with what pupils would be learning in school, ensuring children do not fall behind in key subjects.
- Feedback and Marking: Teachers regularly review submitted work via Google Classroom, providing supportive feedback and tracking pupil progress.
How Parents Can Help
- Help your child log in to Google Classroom at the start of any remote learning period.
- Establish a quiet, structured environment for learning at home where possible.
- Reach out to the school if you experience any technical difficulties, lose access details, or require device support.
